Yehya Mohamed (born October 24, 1949), widely known as Yehya (Yaya), is
an Egyptian comedian, celebrity photographer and a talk show
personality who rose to fame in 2006 when he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel
Live! that airs on ABC. Prior to that Yehya was best known for appearing
numerous times on E! Channel and Access Hollywood.
With his catch phrase, “Hey, can I take a picture with you?” Yehya’s hobby of picture snapping, accent and character have made him well known in the world of Hollywood stars. He is one of those who started the “Selfie” before it becomes the way it is today.
Before Yehya discovered his hobby, he was just a young man struggling to get by. Born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, Yehya was not the ideal student. “I gave my mother a tough time when I was young” Yehya says that without his mother’s love and discipline, he wouldn’t be the man he is today.
Jumping from one job to another, Yehya has worked in many fields. On his diverse resume, the jobs include mechanic, life guard, and handyman, to name a few. But his hobby started in Cannes, where he worked on a boat. The star-studded city was his first step to discovering his new passion in life, “I used to stop celebrities all the time to take a picture with them!” he jokes.
According to an Engima magazine interview in 2015, Yehya is still a handy man at the end of the day despite being on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "I could appear on the show and on the same day be under a sink" Yehya says. The celebrity-spotter who lives in Los Angeles still working as hard as he can, he says that nothing comes easy. In an interview on local Egyptian TV aired on February 13, 2018, Yehya said that he has retired as a maintenance/handyman as he's 68 years old now.
About his plans with all the pictures he has, Yehya told Enigma magazine in 2015, "This is purely a hobby of mine. I do not take money for any of my photos or sell them to anyone or magazines. I like to keep them to myself. Maybe someday I’ll open a restaurant and hang all these pictures, or maybe I’ll write a book."
